After a little wobble, Adam confirms his commitment to being a dad.

Radio Times: Brian calls in the heavies.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • As usual Adam is up early but Ian is awake anyway. There is a text from Madds: she has a job in Tunisia for 6 weeks. So it seems everything will be on hold. “Oh”, says Adam. “I see” says Adam.
  • Brian has checked Tom’s van – no problems. Tom made a mistake and has annoyed a lot of people; it’s not the way to get things done. Jennifer feels that Brian is criticising Tom for having principles.
  • Ian pours out his feelings to Roy. Was Adam’s reaction an indication that his heart really isn’t in this baby business? Roy thinks that maybe Adam was disappointed too. Ian is concerned that he will not be able to keep Adam positive through the delay; he might change his mind.
  • Meanwhile Adam is pouring out his feelings to mum. He guessed that Madds had not thought through how the baby would affect her lifestyle. She can’t expect to dump the child on Ian to go abroad. Jennifer thinks he is not doing very well at supporting Ian; there will be problems but he must not proclaim the project doomed at every turn – not if his heart is in it.
  • Brian has called to ask if Matt knows Malcolm Beck, the cause (allegedly) of Tom’s problems. Could Matt make it in his interest to leave Tom alone? Why should he – for the family, since he is more or less in it! Matt agrees but he will expect a damn good birthday present on Monday.
  • Ian has brought Adam some lunch as a peace offering but Adam gets his apology in first. When Ian suggests that they (yes, they) go ahead with the clinic appointment Adam agrees; it will be difficult but he will make time. Brian is an uncomfortable witness to their kiss and make up. Sooner or later they will have to tell him that they are going to be a dad. Wait a while – a long while.
