Alice is staying at the vicarage and is not coming home any time soon.

Radio Times: Alan gets into damage limitation.

Characters: Adam, Alan, Alice, Amy, Brian, Jennifer

• Jennifer is hoping to see Alice at church this morning but she seems to be doing her best to avoid her parents at present. Brian will look after Ruairidh but, when Jennifer comes back, he feels he must do some farm work to help Adam.
• At the vicarage Alan does his best to persuade his young guest to come to church but to no avail; Alice plans to exercise Spearmint while her mother is out of the way. On the way to church he tries to influence Amy not to stoke Alice’s resentment.
• After church, Alan tries again to get Alice to talk to her parents. She thinks there is nothing more to say; she is disgusted with them. Even though she won’t talk, he tells her that he will keep talking to them.
• Adam fills Brian in on his plans for the week, which includes a trip to the Royal with Alice. He seeks Brian’s advice on some barley and Brian tells him how grateful he is to Adam for handling things on the farm recently; without him it would have gone to pieces.
• Alan reports back to Jennifer on his conversation with Alice. There is no chance of her coming home yet; she has a lot of issues to work through; she feels very hurt and deceived; she was not party to the decision to bring Ruairidh into their home. When Jennifer later shares this with Brian she concludes that they got it all wrong; they handled it in the worst possible way.
