  • Stitching up a heifer at Brookfield, Alistair raises the recent visit to the village of Richard Locke. He admits he was not in a dancing mood at the Barn Dance. Everything is such an effort these days; he is having to start all over again. He really can’t guarantee being able to play cricket this year; David thinks his own cricket days are behind him.
  • Ian has invited Helen to Grey Gables for a talk. He thinks something is going on between Adam and Charlie. At the Barn Dance, the way they were looking at each other was more than friends. Ian has never been able to work out what Adam really thinks about him. Helen reassures him as best she can – bearing in mind the snog she witnessed at Lower Loxley.
  • Ruth comments that Alistair sounded down and wonders whether the reappearance of Richard Locke has anything to do with it. They discuss how to enthuse Pip, perhaps by giving her more responsibility or a new enterprise – but what?
  • At the footie in The Bull, the crowds have gathered. Tom reports two cricket recruits: Johnny and Harrison Burns. Adam takes a call from Pip; he is pleased to report that she wants to go along with Adam and Charlie; no doubt Ian is pleased too.
  • Rob, who earlier declared he wasn’t going to The Bull, takes Tom aside for a quiet word about Helen. Tom weakly argues that he sees Helen come alive when she is working but Rob confides that he and Helen are trying for a baby and therefore it is not a good idea for her to be taking on more responsibility just now.
