Characters: Annette, Helen, Jazzer, Matt, Ruth, Tom

• Tom’s very busy, trying to help more at Bridge Farm while Tony’s laid up. Ruth is understanding. She thinks David deserves time off from his busy schedule too, and asks what he wants to do to celebrate his 50th birthday. To her surprise, David wants a family holiday – abroad.
• Annette’s been drafted in to help with carrot weeding at Bridge Farm, along with Pip and Izzy. They enjoy a girlie giggle.
• David encounters Matt trying to start his motor mower. David lends a hand, seeing that Matt has not had a close encounter with one before. Matt claims his gardener’s getting too old for the job, so he is keeping the garden trim before going up north on a business trip.
• To Annette’s delight, Jazzer rings her and suggests a drink at the Bull. She cancels her evening with Alice and her friends, and rejects the dress Helen lent her. When Helen discovers what’s going on, she’s none too pleased.
