Beth leaves and Ed puts a brave face on it.

Characters: Beth, Clarrie, Ed, Emma, Joe, Oliver

• Beth says her final goodbyes and is having a last trip on Bartleby to get her taxi. Her tact and diplomacy over Emma’s size continue ’til the last. Kenton still hasn’t found a replacement but that’s his problem. She hasn’t had a chance to say goodbye to Ed but maybe it’s better that way.
• Ed is back at work. No change with Bruno though – still going on about Eddie being a grass. Ed catches Bruno blowing straw at the cows and tries to make him stop but takes the chance to have a go about Beth leaving him. Oliver tries to stop keep the peace but Bruno isn’t impressed at being blames again and stormed off. Ed thinks he needs to be kept away from the cattle at least. He’s a liability and one of them will get hurt. Oliver suggests Ed just works while Bruno is at school so they don’t bump into each other.
• Clarrie is sad Beth is going but she encourages her to say goodbye to Ed. she says she’ll call. Coming back with the trap, Joe seems to have hurt his leg. He claims he is alright but he’s obviously in pain so Clarrie takes him to the doctor who says he’s sprained a tendon.
• Emma tells Ed she’s sorry about Beth. He brushes it off. He doesn’t want to talk about it. She doesn’t need to worry about him. He’s fine.
