Radio Times: Peggy’s loyalty is misplaced
Characters: Brian, Jennifer, Nic, Pat, Peggy, William- Will phones Nic and leaves a message, It’s plan B, he’s late leaving work so she must get a taxi to Borchester community centre and wait outside for him. And, he adds, he’s made a decision.
- Brian drops in on Peggy to help with logging in to a financial account on her computer. However, she soon realises that he’s slightly more than one over the eight. She insists that he closes the computer down and waits until tomorrow when he’s sobered up. He apologises and she enquires just why he has got himself into such a state.
- Pat calls into Home Farm to commiserate with Jennifer over the Echo’s article. Jennifer admits that Brian is not well pleased. They’ve weathered worse but this time, she feels that he’s a lot less resilient than he used to be. Meanwhile, Peggy has made coffee for Brian and has heard his sorry tale of last night’s events with Jennifer. She can’t believe that he said such spiteful things. Her daughter has many faults, but disloyalty is not one of them. She’s sure that being the decent man that he is, he will soon put things right.
- As Pat leaves Home Farm, Brian rolls in. She takes the opportunity to tell him how her family feel that he’s being badly treated. She gets only a grunt for in reply and leaves. He apologises again to his wife about his abominable behaviour towards her. She tries to understand, he’s a good man caught up in circumstances. But he has an admission to make, a secret to share. It’s eating away at him. He’s known all along that there was something nasty buried on his land.
- Will gets home. Nic has cried off going out and had an early night. He calls out his decision. He’s going to take dancing lessons with her. He gets no reply. Instead, he finds his wife cold, delirious and looking very unwell indeed. He has to get her to hospital. He decides that an ambulance would take too long to get there. He’ll take her to A&E himself.
