  • It’s Susan’s birthday, but there’s not much chance of a celebration. Emma has a lunch date with Calum, and dumps George on Susan yet again.
  • Fallon buys a posh picnic, but Ed’s not impressed. He thinks it’s too cold and anyway, he’d prefer something from the village shop. Fallon’s attempts at a romantic interlude are finally squashed when they run into Emma and Calum. Emma clearly doesn’t want to introduce them, and Ed is upset to see her with another man. Fallon’s back in shoulder-to-cry-on mode.
  • Emma’s lunch date goes well until Susan arrives, with George. Calum tells Emma he can’t handle it; she has a big problem with the truth. He tells her it’s over between them and walks out, leaving a howling George and a furious Emma.
  • No matter how hard Fallon tries, all Ed can think of is how much he loved Emma. He tells Fallon that he can always talk to her – she never lets him down. It seems that’s the best Fallon can hope for.
  • Emma lets Susan have the full force of her anger. Susan tries to point out that Emma isn’t free, no matter how much she’d like to be. It’s too late – Emma has to face up to her responsibilities. Emma slams out, leaving Susan to the fragments of her birthday.
