  • Tension is the air throughout Ambridge. As Alice packs for her trip to Vancouver, Chris is morose and silent. He drives Alice to the airport, but his mind is on other things and he incurs the wrath of other motorists. Alice asks if he will pick her up, but Chris claims he is not able to think that far ahead. They part uncomfortably.
  • Exhausted by having to work for Lilian, Brenda wants a lie-in, but is woken by Tom’s attempts to cook breakfast. He continues to drone on about his rift with Pat and Tony, and how hard it is to do morning milking. Brenda tells him to grow up and get over it. His life cannot possibly be as dreadful as having to work for Matt and Lilian. Later Tom suggests lunch at The Bull, but Brenda can’t be bothered to get ready. He apologises for his earlier mood, but Brenda is in no mood to accept his apology.
  • Even Brookfield is feeling the tension. Ruth turned the herd out too early and the pastures are water-logged, and even worse, a prospective tenant for Rickyard Cottage turned it down because it was on a farm. At least that gives Ruth and David a chance to sneer at townie ways. But Pip is still causing trouble by refusing to help on the farm because she has two assignments to do. David tries to reason with her, without success, but the proud parents do agree that Josh is mature beyond his years and a huge asset to the farm.
