  • A puncture on a cold day is no fun, so Alice is pleased when Pip stops: she can wait in the warm and catch up on the news, mainly Pip’s holidays.
  • Clarrie is not impressed with the newly purchased tractor: it’s full of holes. Ed and Jazzer will have their work cut out and they need to bear in mind that some prospective purchasers will want to do some of the restoration themselves.
  • Pip is dashing through and resists Ruth’s attempt to engage her for a chat. Treating home like a hotel is not on: she promises to help but will not commit to a time. She can’t stay to chat; she has plans – and she will not be home tonight. She makes it very clear that in her view Ruth should not be monitoring her every move; if Pip were away at university, Ruth would know nothing of her movements.
  • Eddie has heard that Darrell has got some work painting and decorating for the Aldridges; he is envious. Clarrie takes the opportunity for a chat with Ed; she wonders whether everything is alright between Ed and Jazzer. Ed seems to have come round to the idea that they have picked up a bargain.
  • Alice has something to tell Chris. She has decided to go to the interview with DZT; she has booked the leave and the flights for next week. It might not come to anything but she doesn’t want to miss the opportunity. Chris is not so sure: he doesn’t want to work for someone else and he doesn’t want to start all over again. Will he be able to sell the business? What will Alice do if they offer her the job? She doesn’t know – which speaks volumes: Alice is thinking only of herself.
