  • Pat is a bit short with Clarrie but later apologises. They discuss the difficulties of supporting adult children. Pat truly wishes Tom to be settled and happy. Clarrie points out that she has had to witness a war between her sons.
  • Kenton and Freddie are out driving and Kenton wants Freddie to try a three point turn. Freddie announces he can’t do this right now and he leaves the car in the middle of the turn. Kenton gets out and asks what is wrong. Anything that can be messed up, Kenton assures Freddie that he has already done it. Freddie tells Kenton that Parents’ Evening is coming up and Freddie’s maths tutor will tell Elizabeth that he has failed his retakes. Lily refuses to keep Parents’ Evening a secret and Freddie’s lies will disappoint Elizabeth.
  • Pat gives Clarrie a madeira cake as an apology. Clarrie notes that it is up to the older generation to give the younger ones an example. When Clarrie arrives home, she finds Eddie determined to rent out the room. Clarrie worries about the extra work but Eddie declares they will all chip in. Clarrie finally gives in but says Oliver and Caroline must give their blessing.
  • Kenton cooks up an idea whereby Freddie delays Elizabeth’s arrival at the Parents’ Evening. Kenton will arrive early and tell the maths tutor that Elizabeth wants Kenton to speak to him. Then Freddie only needs keep Elizabeth away from the maths tutor.
  • Eddie announces that he has spoken to Oliver and all is fine. He hasn’t exactly mentioned that they intend to run a B&B, more like having visitors from time to time. Clarrie doesn’t pick up on this difference but asks about Caroline’s approval. Oliver doesn’t want to bother Caroline with this little matter, Eddie asserts.
