  • Pat attempts to help Tom by taking on some of his jobs. Tom is resistant and continues to work. He doesn’t want to talk; he only cares about the business. There is nothing to say that will change how he feels.
  • Miranda runs into Lilian while shopping in Borchester. Miranda really doesn’t understand how anyone puts food on the table ‘out here’. Miranda notices that Lilian is buying chocolates and asks if Lilian plans to eat them all herself. No, they are for Tom. Miranda hoped to find something to wear to Jennifer’s party but there is nothing suitable. Perhaps she’ll recycle some old thing from London; no one is likely to know the difference in this backwater.
  • Tom gets into an argument with Jazzer about how to feed the pigs. Jazzer is disgusted and refuses to continue. He is off to the pub and Tom should join him after he finishes with the pigs by himself. Later, Tom does come to The Bull and Jazzer asks what else is wrong. Tom opens up and says the guilt is the worst. Everything Tom has done has caused grief to Kirsty. He feels that if he had ignored his fears, they would have married and had a happy family by now. Jazzer tells Tom that he needs to face reality. He didn’t marry because he knew it wasn’t right. The miscarriage is no one’s fault and he must let it go. It wasn’t Tom’s doing.
  • Miranda manages to insult Jolene by questioning the wine. Miranda does manage to say something nice about the food but she is determined to make it clear that she and Justin are spending quality time together. Miranda plans to be around much more often to prevent Justin from getting too lonely.
  • Lilian shows up at The Bull for a glass of wine and tries to show Jolene her new lingerie. Jolene heads her off and points out that Miranda and Justin are having lunch. Miranda comes over to order and greets Lilian for the second time that day. Lilian claims she isn’t bothered and Miranda will be back in London soon. Jolene confides that Miranda announced she will be around Ambridge more; she seems determined to keep an eye on Justin.
  • Tom gives Pat Lilian’s gift of chocolates. Tom apologises for his ill humour earlier. He tells his mum that he is determined to handle things better. Pat reassures Tom that good things are ahead for him. With his family behind him, he is bound to succeed.
