Clarrie is definitely found to be the cause of the E. coli and Bridge Farm gets hit with a £10,000 emergency recall charge from Underwoods.

Radio Times: Bridge Farm takes another financial hit.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Clarrie is feeling guilty at the hours Eddie is putting in while she is out of work. But he’s happy things are going well. Might even have enough money for a little treat on Bank Holiday Monday.
  • The cash-flow account for Bridge Farm is looking pretty poor. There might not even be enough money for the mortgage payment. Tony tries to tell her things will get better but Pat thinks Tom and Brenda are whistling in the dark looking for new markets. At least, there is some good news. Environmental Health aren’t going to prosecute. But Underwoods are charging them £10,000 for the emergency recall.
  • Peggy tells Elona how hard she is finding things now – things like the ironing and shopping are so hard for her now. Elona has had a look at No.3 the Green and it is perfect but she can’t afford it. Peggy tries to offer her some work at the Lodge to encourage her to stay but she still won’t consider it. Even with the extra money, she still couldn’t raise the money – and she won’t accept a loan either.
  • Clarrie has had a letter from Environmental Health. She doesn’t understand it. It doesn’t seem to be clear whether she was the cause of the contamination or not. She doesn’t want to make a fuss but Eddie is determined she should get it sorted. When Eddie asks David, he is pretty certain it means it was Clarrie so it was her fault that those children got so ill. Pat will never give her her job back now – she’ll probably never get another job.
