Radio Times: Brookfield needs to dig deeper, and Kenton strikes a deal.

  • David tells Ruth that Pat is coming round to discuss the compensation. Ruth flies into a fury and says they could be sued. Pity she didn’t mention talking to Usha before letting David wander off to admit liability.
  • Toby is furious that Pip didn’t tell him that she’d stayed over with Chris and Alice. They squabble and Toby blames her. She wasn’t around when he needed her before his big meeting with Kenton. She says now that that is how it feels. All those times in Brighton. Toby storms out.
  • Pip tries to calm things down with Ruth but she isn’t listening. Ruth says it isn’t a good time. Pip wants to know why and Ruth says that she can’t talk with Pat waiting. Pip’s actions have pushed the farm to the brink and a few empty words aren’t going to help.
  • Brian tells Jennifer that his financial adviser suggests they turn the farm into a family partnership with all of the children having a stake. And if any of them wanted out they could make it clear the other children had the right to buy them out. Brian explains how they would work out the shares – and they’d obviously need to appoint someone to look after Ruairi’s share. Jennifer thinks it might be a good idea. Brian and Jennifer would have 3 shares each, one share each for the children and one extra share each for Debbie and Adam as long as they are still working on the farm. Jennifer thinks it is very clever. They’ll have to see if the children agree.
  • Pat explains to David and Ruth that the compensation isn’t enough. They need the money to sell the reactors and restock. David says Tony’s cows aren’t a real part of the Bridge Farm business. Pat is furious that he is suggesting the herd are just a hobby. Ruth worries about being sued and Pat says they won’t do that. David just caves in and agrees he’ll pay whatever it costs. After Pat leaves, Ruth goes into another fit. They’ve spent Heather’s money and the house didn’t sell for what it should have. Where the hell are they going to find the money?
  • Toby has an offer for Kenton. Maybe they should call it Scruff gin. He was never that keen on Fairbrother Gin and there are problems with Archer gin. Lily has done a mock up artwork which impresses Kenton and he agrees they should go ahead. They have a deal.
