David and Josh argue over Josh’s business vs. Brookfield Farm duties and Toby despairs of ever getting Pip back.
Radio Times: Josh makes an executive decision
Characters: David, Ed, Josh, Pip, Rex, Ruth, Toby- David is annoyed again about Josh’s absence when time is essential for the silaging. Ed shows up expecting to work because Josh has paid him up front to do the hauling. More explosions from David.
- Josh and Rex argue about whether a rusted cultivator can be put into proper working order in a matter of days when Josh gets a call. Guess who this can be? We don’t find out because Josh refuses the call. Josh figures that by fixing the goods themselves, they can cut out the middleman and make more money. Rex grumbles because Josh has promised this wreck can be ready by Friday but Rex finally gives in. Josh’s mobile rings again and he refuses the call once more.
- Of all people, Ed criticizes Toby’s personal hygiene and dress. Ed observes that Toby looks as if he is imbibing all his Scruff Gin in an effort to portray the brand.
- Josh argues with David and brazenly admits he deliberately didn’t answer his phone; Josh paid Ed with his own money because he will make more on his business than helping out with silaging. David tells Josh he is missing the point; he isn’t pulling his weight on the family farm. Josh points out that he will make 50% more if the cultivator is ready and online for Friday. The argument degenerates into a disagreement about Pip. Josh declares he is always in the wrong and Pip is the star since she broke up with Toby. Josh brings up the shared bedroom issue and how he is now in the dining room while Pip has her own room. Because Pip doesn’t want to do Open Farm Sunday, Josh can’t advertise his business at that important time. David notes that Josh uses farm tools and space for free but Josh isn’t impressed and won’t back down.
- Toby surprises Pip and the conversation is stilted. Pip also comments on Toby’s appearance and makes a quick exit. Toby sighs in despair.
- Rex tells Josh that taking the rust off the cultivator is a slow business and he is taking a break. David calls and demands that Josh come now and relieve Pip. Josh needles Pip about being the family favourite and he takes the opportunity to complain about the bedroom situation to her. Rex brings sandwiches to Toby but Toby refuses to stop working to eat. Rex complains about the Josh and David disagreements but Toby isn’t interested. He only wants to exclaim how beautiful Pip was when they met and how terrible Toby looked. Rex tells him he should clean himself up but Toby asks what is the point? After today, he has no chance of ever getting back with Pip.
