Radio Times: Lilian is keen to help and Johnny is in need of a companion

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Lilian and Justin are out on a hack when Justin brings the conversation around to the divorce settlement, his favourite topic. Lilian is grateful that Justin managed to hold onto the two Arabians. When Justin brings the conversation around to Miranda’s visit to the Dower House, Lilian is determined to change the subject. Since the assistant who keeps Justin’s social diary has caused him to miss out on a local opportunity, Lilian offers to keep his schedule once again. Justin doesn’t think it an appropriate task for his fiancée. In any case, he has advertised for a personal assistant and has had a gratifying response. Lilian suddenly shows a great interest and suggests that she might conduct the preliminary interviews.
  • Ruth and David are cutting grass but David is annoyed that Josh is not available to help the silaging because of his farm machinery wheeling and dealing. Josh has also wound up his father by complaining that Brookfield isn’t doing Open Farm Sunday this year. David continues his rant until Ruth interrupts with plans for a walk. If David doesn’t calm down, he will have a heart attack, Ruth declares.
  • Johnny accompanies Kirsty on a walk through the country park and they have a laugh over the new cat which seems to have scratched or bitten everyone but Henry and Peggy. Johnny has received a ticket for the Isle of Wight Festival and Kirsty is envious. Johnny is very grateful to his parents for such a generous present for his graduation. Kirsty asks who Johnny is taking to the Isle of Wight.
  • Lilian and Justin enjoy the return to the village with their horses and Lilian asks what plans are being considered for Berrow. Justin is thinking of many ideas but has made no plans as of yet. Lilian doesn’t know what to advise but Justin has given himself a deadline for his decision. This is an important decision and he wants to ensure that this project is a success.
  • Kirsty notes there will be a professional team to trim the wood and maintain the paths of the Millennium Wood instead of relying on volunteers. Johnny is reluctant to ask his friend to go to the festival but Kirsty points out that perhaps he should reconsider. It is a big step and he should think about it carefully. They meet Ruth and David; Johnny asks about Open Farm Sunday and notes that Tom figured they would want to keep their heads down and not join in. Ruth steps into the awkward pause and tells Johnny there are several reasons why they have decided not to join in this year. Johnny takes his leave and David mutters that Johnny must be in a rush to get to diplomacy school!
  • Lilian reminds Justin about her turn on the speed patrol Wednesday. Justin laughs and notes that he will be extra careful when driving through the village. Kirsty walks up and thanks Justin for the forestry contractor. It is very good news. Lilian praises Justin’s determination to get this approved by the BL board. Kirsty takes her leave and Lilian teases Justin about earning brownie points with the locals. Justin seems very happy with his new home village and notes that he is getting more interested in local projects.
