  • The Budapest holiday was a great success, especially the silver bracelet that David handed to Ruth over dinner. Now it’s David’s turn for a surprise, on Sunday.
  • Emma and Ed are going to view the puppies; let’s hope George will be as excited as Emma is. On the way they discuss Darrell: what will he be doing for Christmas? Ed was proud of his dad, the way he helped Darrell.
  • Leonie can’t be tempted to help Lynda with some gardening. She is engrossed in writing a list of James’ personality traits to help her decide whether it is worth them staying together. It’s not looking good so far: spoilt, selfish, arrogant. Lynda suggests that he has many positive attributes but doesn’t actually volunteer one.
  • The puppies are lovely – of course, aren’t they all! But there is a snag: Mark, the owner, has promised the pick of the litter to a family from Felpersham who are away until after Christmas. So George may come and George may look, but he can’t take one home with him until the New Year. Mark won’t be budged on this; a promise is a promise.
  • Leonie does indeed find some good points about James but the basic problem is that he is immature. Lynda is in a hurry; try as she might to rush off to rehearsal – she can’t be late again – Leonie insists on sharing some news: she’s pregnant. James doesn’t know yet but Leonie is not sure there is any point in telling him – she thinks he will just drop her cold; she is not even sure she is going to have the baby.
