David gets little sympathy from Ruth. Henry gets endless admiration from everyone.

Radio Times: Helen and Henry pay a visit, and it is a stressful time for Ruth.

  • Pip offers to do the supermarket shop to help Ruth, who is finding it hard to run Brookfield without David. Ruth is touched, but has already got that organised. Anyway, Helen and Henry are coming round later, and Pip will want to see them. The lack of shopping means that David has to eat cold pizza for breakfast; at least there is always pizza at Brookfield.
  • David has yet another call about a tray for the wedding cake, but gets little sympathy from Ruth when she learns that Elizabeth has asked him to look after the rare breeds. Seemingly he can look after the Lower Loxley cattle but not his own. Weakly, David says he will think of something; Ruth brusquely says she will ring Brian.
  • Eddie admires Henry, and is pleased when Helen comments on how quickly Clarrie has picked up cheese-making. He, too, is on his way to Brookfield, which is just as well, because he quickly discovers that some of the calves are sick. David has failed to repair the shed, and they have gone down with pneumonia. He rings Alistair, who comes straight away and administers antibiotics. Ruth and Eddie move the stock to a warmer shed, leaving Pip to adore Henry.
  • When David returns, Ruth vents her anger on him. He may well be tired, but so is she. Not only has David failed to mend the shed, he also failed to check the calves and to ask Pip how her exams went. Pip is rather more sympathetic; David is doing two jobs. He needs to rest; she will check the livestock for him.
