Emma is very depressed that Will is making a new start in life and she is stuck as a cleaner. Clarrie is finding it hard keeping quiet about Nic.
Radio Times: Emma dreams of better things.
Characters: Bert, Clarrie, Emma, Pat, Phil, Ruth, Tom- Bert is still telling the story of the exploding tractor at Brookfield – the repairs aren’t going well – when Emma turns up late and exhausted with a very fractious George. She is very depressed, it’s just passed her third wedding anniversary and now her life is a mess while Will is getting on with a new life and so is Ed. She’s a cleaner, mopping floors and scrubbing toilets. It wasn’t meant to be like this.
- Tom is fed up with having spent the weekend doing Gourmet Grills with Jazzer. Pat thinks it might be because he is jealous Matt. But Tom says he just can’t understand why Brenda bends over backwards to please him. Pat tries to convince him it’s just because she is ambitious but he doesn’t sound convinced.
- Pat tells Clarrie how hard she finds it not to interfere in Tom’s life and that reminds her to ask how it went meeting Nic. Clarrie successfully avoids answering any questions at all. Later on, when it’s obvious something is wrong it all comes out. She thinks Nic is just after a Dad for Will’s kids and she’s having trouble keeping quiet even though she knows she should. Pat’s advice is to grit her teeth and smile. She’s always wondered if things would have turned out differently if she’d done the same with John and Sharon.
- Bert and Phil are comparing vegetables. They’ve had a rotten season so far but things are improving a bit now. They are both obviously plotting about who is entering what for the Flower and Produce show.
