Freddie gets into training for the hunt. Tom’s pigs get into training for a marketing initiative.
Radio Times: Tom has a trick up his sleeve and Freddie rises to a new challenge.
Characters: Brenda, Clarrie, Freddie, Jazzer, Jennifer, Shula, Tom- Tom proudly shows Brenda his logo for Tom Archer’s Borchester Sausages. She is impressed, but thinks a major launch event is needed. Tom is not so sure. Meanwhile he has to face the prospect of showing his new packaging to Pat and Tony.
- Out shopping, Jennifer comes across Clarrie looking wistfully in a jeweller’s window. Jennifer invites her for tea and cakes, but Clarrie says no. Realising why, Jennifer says she’d be glad of some company, and will treat Clarrie, who somewhat reluctantly accepts. Over tea, Jennifer tells her how empty the house is now that Ruairidh is at boarding school and Brian so involved in his epic project. Poor Clarrie, who has failed to get a cleaning job at the market, weakly admits that she is lucky; there is always someone in and out at home. The ever-patronising Jennifer suggests that Clarrie might take up voluntary work; maybe she would like to help Jill organise the Harvest Supper? Clarrie politely turns the offer down.
- Freddie has a lesson from Shula in preparation for his first meet. He tells Shula about his new friend Lachlan, who is very much a city boy, and won’t like the idea of hunting. Shula is full of praise, and touched when Freddie quotes Nigel to her.
- Brenda is treated to a demonstration of Tom’s great marketing strategy; pig football. Unfortunately the pigs seem not to have grasped the off-side rule, but Tom has high hopes of some training and a promotional video. Brenda thinks it’s wonderful.
