Helen gets a surprise invitation to Rob’s dinner party. Matt piles the pressure on Lilian.

Radio Times: Rob’s nervous about his cooking skills, and Helen has an unexpected invitation.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Matt has been thinking about their holiday and decided they won’t go – too much stress in Turkey with the current demonstrations. Lilian has barely had time to digest that when he announces they are going to Montenegro instead.
  • It’s a brave thing to invite a chef to dinner but that’s what Rob has done, invited Adam and Ian; now he has to go shopping before he loses his nerve. Happily his first port of call is Ambridge Organics, where Helen is a ready source of ideas – particularly one that she knows Ian really likes. The recipe is for six, so would Helen like to join them?
  • Phoebe calls on Lilian, looking for sponsorship for a swim, and finds her in tears. She administers a therapeutic hug.
  • The dinner party goes well, though without Ian who had to work. There is some sparring about the pros and cons of big dairies versus organic. Helen concedes to Adam that she finds Rob attractive; why are they always gay or married?
  • Lilian agrees that Montenegro looks lovely. Matt begins to query the builder’s timescale; have they gone with the right firm? Lilian can’t face that right now. Matt suggests that, because of her night-time prowling, it might be better for Lilian to sleep in the spare room. She agrees. He also thinks he should go to Paul’s funeral on Monday and wants her to come to support him. She tries to raise objections but he presses the request; it was, after all, she who had pushed him into tracing his mum. Anyway, she has been invited.
