It’s Ian and Adam’s quiet stag evening at The Bull, but Rob’s attends with sinister motives.

Radio Times: A stag night comes to the pub, while Roy and Kirsty go over their lines.

  • Ian finishes early at Grey Gables, due to his stag evening. Charlie comes to confirm the accommodation he’s booking on behalf of Justin Elliott and is anxious to check that any ‘unsuitable’ guests won’t be present, in other words, the Grundys. He’s assured by Roy that they’re due to leave soon.
  • Kirsty and Roy discuss Helen and how Kirsty’s not seen much of her recently. They’ve agreed to rehearse some of their lines together for Calendar Girls. The Grey Gables office party is discussed and while Kirsty’s excited for her first one, Roy may not bother with it at all.
  • Adam and Ian prepare for their evening at The Bull. They are the first to arrive and chat with Kenton, who is pleased about the number of Christmas bookings he’s been taking. Rob arrives, much to everyone’s surprise. Kenton provides shots to get the evening started and then the evening progresses to drinking games. Ian, Rob and Roy decline to participate and move to another part of the pub. While Roy goes to get more drinks, Rob takes the opportunity to give a backhanded compliment to Ian on his ‘open’ relationship. In fact, he rather envies him his ‘freedom’, fully expecting that equal rules apply to him as well as Adam. When quizzed further by Ian, Rob discloses his knowledge of Adam’s affair with the picker and also the ‘on/off thing’ with Charlie. Ian doesn’t betray his ignorance about Adam and Charlie, and covers himself by saying he hadn’t realised it was more widely known. Only to be expected, according to Rob, with living in a small village community.
  • Outside, following the drinking games, Charlie genuinely wishes Adam well, as a friend. His one wish is to not be forgotten by Adam. As Adam reassures him and they make their peace, Ian finds them outside and says he thinks it is time they left. Adam agrees to finish his drink and say his goodbyes and will meet Ian at home.
