Ian and Adam exchange vows with Adam none the wiser about Rob’s disclosure to Ian.

Radio Times: Adam and Ian are getting married, and Lynda faces a casting crisis.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Jennifer seeks Brian’s opinion on her wardrobe choices as they prepare for the happy occasion. She’s pleased that Brian has accepted Adam and Ian’s relationship, which he feels is exemplary, compared with how Kate runs her private life. Jennifer knows otherwise, but doesn’t let on.
  • Unlike Jennifer, Helen is less than happy with her appearance as she can’t find anything to fit her. To her surprise, Rob appears in a suit. Contrary to his previous strongly expressed opinions about the occasion, he will attend to support Helen. After all, Adam is her cousin.
  • It’s the morning after the night before and Adam knows something is on Ian’s mind. Ian keeps his own counsel but wants assurance from Adam that he does want to go through with the ceremony, which Adam confirms and the vows are exchanged. Later, even Charlie observes to Adam that Ian doesn’t seem himself but Adam is oblivious.
  • The phone calls Brian away and it’s Justin Elliott. Jennifer chats with Charlie about his plans for Perthshire. Jennifer observes that he appears nervous, which he puts down to the stag night and not having slept well. Charlie won’t have much time off over Christmas but is invited to pop into Home Farm for a Christmas drink. Charlie excuses himself before the buffet. Jennifer feels it’s a shame he works so hard and hasn’t yet met the right girl.
  • As Rob and Jennifer discuss the recycling of her kitchen units, she is desperate to secure discretion from Rob over her disclosure at the hunt ball. Rob assures her that he can be relied on to ‘behave appropriately’ with regard to the knowledge of Adam’s affair. He later expresses his surprise to Helen that the ceremony has gone ahead. Helen sees no issue now that Charlie is moving away. Rob does not pass up the opportunity to make a barbed comment about the quantity of food on her plate, in light of the worries she had earlier over fitting into her dress. Rob is backed into a corner when Ian becomes emotional during his speech and Helen urges Rob to take the reins by making a toast to ‘the happy couple’.
  • Kenton passes on news to Jennifer that a family crisis has pulled Carol away, which means she cannot take part in Calendar Girls, leaving Lynda with her own crisis of a casting kind.
