Radio Times: It’s results day for Pip

Characters: Brian, Clarrie, David, Debbie, Jennifer, Kathy, Pip

• Pip rings David to tell him her AS results. They’re somewhat mixed, and a C in Chemistry and E in Business Studies aren’t impressive. David does his best to sound encouraging. Later she tells him she’s going to drop Chemistry and retake her Biology and Business Studies to improve her grades.
• Jennifer is immersed in caterers, marquees and the like, so Debbie asks Brian to tell her about the market development. He’s got a better idea – they’ll go and take a look. Debbie’s impressed, and gently teases Brian about forgetting his retirement plans. Brian tries to convince her of his altruism, but Debbie knows him better than that. Brian tries to sound her out over her split with Marshall. Debbie assures him she’s never been happier.
• Someone who isn’t happy is Kathy. Jamie has gone to the cinema with friends, and is getting a lift back, but hasn’t returned, and his phone is in his room. Kenton’s not picking up his phone, so frantic with worry, Kathy goes round to Clarrie and pours her heart out. She tells her that she and Kenton aren’t getting on, and that she misses Sid’s reliability. As she sobs, Jamie appears at the door, very contrite. The boys’ lift was late so they went for a burger and forgot the time.
• Back at Home Farm, Brian can’t find some whiskey. Jennifer admits she’s locked that, and other valuables away before the party. Brian jokes about the Horrobins getting drunk on his champagne – and the only head case in that family is safely banged up. Jennifer doesn’t sound quite so confident.
