Jennifer offers consolation to Lilian. Kirsty offers consolation to Brenda.
Radio Times: Matt’s name is mud for Tony and Jennifer.
Characters: David, Jennifer, Lilian, Ruth, Tony- News of Matt’s brush with the Fraud Squad has spread around the village, so Jennifer hot-foots it to the Dower House to offer Lilian some sisterly comfort. Lilian hasn’t realised the speed of the Ambridge grapevine, but is horrified to think that people like Susan will be gossiping about it.
- At the same time as Jennifer arrives at the Dower House, Tony is discussing matters with David and Ruth. He tells them Tom is devastated by the dashing of his hopes for the business and his rift with Brenda. He thinks Lilian should give Matt the elbow, and intends going round to tell her so. But Tony’s anger doesn’t stop him singing the praises of his new reed-bed scheme. David thinks the Parish Council would support the scheme as it is so environmentally friendly.
- Lilian’s in initial anger at local gossip soon breaks down, and she tells Jennifer that things have been awful, and will get worse. Then Tony arrives, and a row breaks out between him and Lilian. She defends Matt, saying it is all Chalkie’s fault. Jennifer manages to calm them down, saying that they are Lilian’s family, and are there to support her. Lilian is pathetically grateful.
- TLC is on the cards for Brenda, too, in the shape of Kirsty. When Brenda tells her that all she wants is to get back with Tom, she suggests texting him; but Brenda’s done that already, and Tom isn’t responding.
