Radio Times: Ruth’s in need of companionship.

  • Hayley asks Tom what he thinks about a Track Day for Roy’s birthday. Tom thinks it’s a great idea – until Hayley asks if he’d like to contribute. Tom’s still sore about Roy’s stance over the accident, but seeing Hayley’s awkwardness over it, agrees to a fiver.
  • Phoebe has spoken to Kate and Nolly on the phone, and is thrilled to hear she’s to have a baby brother or sister. With supreme insensitivity, Jennifer imparts the news to Hayley, who struggles to share Jennifer’s delight. She hopes she can tell Roy before Phoebe does.
  • Later, Hayley tells Brenda about the baby. She feels it’s so unfair that Kate should have three children while she and Roy can’t have one. Brenda tries to console her, but her words are empty.
  • Jill calls at Brookfield to discuss a replacement for Freda. David can’t get out of the house fast enough, having made it clear that he doesn’t want to spend any more time with Ruth than he has to. Jill gently suggests that Ruth should advertise for someone who would do more than clean – maybe get the children’s tea, do the ironing and so on. Ruth thinks this might be the solution and tells Jill how much she appreciates her. Jill accepts Ruth’s offer to stay a bit longer. She can see how difficult things are.
