  • Annette’s chatting to Kenton when Ian arrives for his paper. She launches into telling Ian that Helen’s date must have fared badly; she didn’t bring Leon back here or be a dirty stop out. Ian points out sex on a first date isn’t obligatory, which Annette claims to know. Kenton’s glad he’s not young and the etiquette of first dates is behind him.
  • Pat talked to Tony and told him he was out-voted, 3 to 1; Helen and Tom can sign cheques.
  • Kenton’s taken Jim to a classic car showroom. He purchases a sky blue 1.5L Riley RMA; Alistair will take him to pick it up tomorrow. On the way back, he phones Naomi, feigning a dizzy spell as the reason Kenton’s late, but lays it on very thick.
  • Ian’s prepared Peggy and Jack’s lunch. Pat arrives and sees how upset Peggy is. Peggy can’t begin to think what she’ll do if a good replacement for Barney’s not found.
  • Helen tells Ian about the date and will kill Annette for gossiping. Helen would like to see Leon again but feels he’ll think she’s bonkers for rushing off. Ian tells her Leon will phone today, and if it doesn’t he’s no taste and she’s better off without him.
  • Annette’s trying to claim she wasn’t gossiping as Helen ticks her off, but marries this with trying to claim Susan isn’t indiscreet, weakening her case somewhat. She’s saved by Leon phoning. A breathless, girlish Helen agrees to meet again next week. Annette promises not to breathe a word about it to anyone.
