Joe is worried about where the Grundys will live.

Radio Times: The villagers mark Remembrance Sunday, and Eddie musters some fighting spirit.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Joe and Eddie talk over Bartleby’s care. Joe is upset that he isn’t in his usual ‘winter quarters’. Joe thinks they should set up as squatters and Hazel Woolley would have trouble shifting them. Eddie disagrees and says that Clarrie wouldn’t agree to that plan. Joe still fusses over Bartleby not having a proper home, although he is probably transferring his worry about his own family onto Bartleby.
  • Rex Fairbrother has promised Alan a goose for the church after his reading on Remembrance Sunday. No surprise that brother Toby seems to be absent. Shula and Alan compare the world today with that of 100 years ago. Dan is looking forward to Friday for his 21st. Shula has planned quite the celebration and she is pleased that Dan has made so many friends. The party will be at Lower Loxley and will be quite impressive.
  • Eddie thinks it might be worth it to ask for social housing. Joe points out that most properties have gone private and it is hopeless to ask for help. Joe is fearful that they will end up in a high-rise. He needs a garden and Eddie reassures him that they won’t end up there.
  • Ed turns up and talks about Emma’s work with Fallon. He notes that there is a For Let sign up at Keeper’s Cottage. Joe begins to fret anew.
  • Shula tells Alan that Jill will be moving back to the farm where she belongs. Elizabeth will miss her but Jill is very pleased.
  • Ed has brought some pastries for Eddie and Joe to try; he notes that he and Emma want the Grundys to move into #1 The Green. Will wants this as well. Joe seems inclined to accept but Eddie refuses and says they will find their own home. It will take more than a sour-faced Hazel Woolley to keep a Grundy down.
