  • Anna is up early and is very grumpy. Carol asks about her meeting with Max but Anna doesn’t respond. She says she is rushing because she has a meeting with Helen’s solicitor. Carol presses her and she responds that nothing happened.
  • Ursula is prattling on about village events and Rob is clearly not interested. He snaps at her. He is trying to think. She says she’ll stay quiet while he prepares for the interview with Justin but she starts wittering about his school days. So Rob storms out for some peace and quiet at Grey Gables.
  • Carol bumps into Kirsty working in the farm shop. She’s trying to do what she can while Pat and Tony are away. Carol takes a phone call and Kirsty wonders if it is about Helen. She wishes she could talk to Anna. Johnny wishes he didn’t have to. She scares the pants off him.
  • Rob says the meeting went okay. He thought it went well. A couple of sticky questions at the beginning. He told him that Charlie wasn’t up to the job, suggested some changes. Justin smiled quite a lot, especially when Rob told him he could start straight away but on the way home, he became less certain. Ursula thinks it will all be alright. Justin does call back. He thinks Rob is an excellent judge of character and that Charlie was a safe pair of hands but he wanted a man with more vision so he asked Rob to manage Demara’s estates. He hasn’t accepted. He mustn’t seem too keen. This is just the start. Henry will be back from Wales and Gideon will be home soon. Things are really starting to fall into place.
  • The meeting with Helen didn’t go well. She refused to talk about the case at all and Anna blames herself for being bad at her job. She also finally says that Max has asked for a divorce. She made such a fool of herself. She kept promising she’d change, that she wouldn’t bring work home or check her e-mails but Max wasn’t interested. She retires to bed with a bottle of whisky. She is a rubbish lover, a rubbish lawyer. And she sees no point in going on with Helen’s case. If she doesn’t give Anna something more, they will find her guilty.
