Kate drinking Brian’s best burgundy and setting off the fire alarms causes Phoebe to say Kate is on her own now.

Radio Times: Pip is ready to get stuck in, and Kate is feeling ceremonial.

  • Kate is cooking in the Home Farm kitchen and won’t let Brian in for food. He can have some dead animal if he likes. And then Brian notices the herbs for burning. He thinks it might get rid of her guests as well as the evil spirits. Brian declines the invitation to the party – he’d rather have a bath. Then Phoebe arrives and makes it clear she still isn’t planning on staying overnight.
  • No more news from Prudhoe. But Pip has finished her exams and is ready to get started with farming again. David says she can help him walk the Herefords. Pip asks what will happen if Heather can’t cope? David says Ruth doesn’t think any of the homes are suitable so far but she isn’t likely to want to move to Brookfield.
  • Phoebe realises, when Kate is trying to force Fallon to drink, that it is Brian’s vintage burgundy they are drinking. Phoebe apologises to Fallon and says at least she has turned up which is more than her “uni” friends have done. Fallon says business is going well. Kate thinks being your own boss must be great and Kate suddenly begins to admit that her course isn’t going well and, just maybe, she should think about something else. The karma from her course tutor really isn’t working…
  • Kate begins her smudging and chanting which chokes most of the few guests who remain and the smoke alarms go off. They are, of course, linked to a control centre. Kate doesn’t even know the code to turn it off and so Brian, relaxing in his bath, gets the call.
  • David is surprised to hear from Pip that she listened to Adam’s view of old fashioned farming. She says she never wanted intensive farming for Brookfield. And whatever her job plans are, she’s not going away for ever. She wants some fun but she’ll be back. David says he’d like that very much.
  • As Kate and Phoebe struggle with the alarm, Brian turns up and fixes it. Kate finds it all very funny and so Brian tells her she can’t be trusted to run a teddy bears’ picnic. And then he notices the burgundy. In resignation Brian says he’s going home and Phoebe goes with him. She is never staying with Kate, she is on her own.
