Kathy is convinced she must get back to work. Matt is in trouble with his Great Crested Newts.
Radio Times: Matt calls in the experts.
Characters: Annabelle, Elizabeth, Kathy, Kenton, Nigel- Kenton is trying to look after Kathy but it is worrying that being ill might affect Jamie and she feels bad about letting Nigel and Elizabeth down. Eventually he persuades her that at least lunch in Borchester would get her out of the house.
- Elizabeth has asked Usha if she can get out of giving evidence for Taylor. Believing that it is only a character witness she says yes but points out that a more important witness would have more trouble so Elizabeth thinks she is stuck with it.
- Matt finds another excuse to drop in on Annabelle. Apparently it looks as if the environmentalists have a strong case with lots of evidence of the presence of the Great Crested Newts. But she thinks now they know what they are up against they are better prepared to fight.
- Nigel drops around to see how Kathy is and she tells him she doesn’t have a virus but isn’t up to coming into work. She is so shocked by everything – the other girl, that people were talking about her, that Elizabeth is against her. Nigel stresses she should take as much time as she needs.
- Matt tries to find out what Annabelle is doing for Christmas and with whom but she is rather circumspect and suggests in return that Matt should borrow a cottage in Cornwall to take Lilian away for a romantic Christmas. Matt sounds less than overwhelmed.
- Nigel tells Elizabeth that they will have to do without Kathy but he doesn’t want Elizabeth overdoing things either. Meanwhile, Kathy is convinced by Nigel’s visit that she must go back to work – she can’t let Owen take away her job from her as well as everything else.
