Kathy’s past comes back to haunt her. Emma keeps her past very quiet.

Radio Times: Kathy is haunted by the ghosts of her past.

  • Nigel shows Kathy the grape vines. The summer has taken its toll of the crop, but Nigel is still reasonably hopeful. He has organised some pickers, and Kathy offers to provide a picnic for them.
  • Two policemen from Bournemouth call at Lower Loxley, asking whether Nigel and Lizzie know Gareth Taylor alias Marcus Dixon. When they are shown a photograph, Nigel and Lizzie instantly recognise Owen. They say that although he left very suddenly, they have no reason to think that he might be involved in the sort of assault the police are looking into.
  • The police then call on Kathy in the shop. She says she knew Owen only slightly, and can’t help them much. They don’t seem altogether convinced, and leave a card, asking Kathy to call if she remembers anything more.
  • Calum calls Emma and offers to pick her up for their cinema date. She fudges things and says it will be easier to meet him there. They enjoy a drink, though Calum talks so much Emma barely has a chance to say anything. He tells her she should spread her wings and find another job. Cagily, Emma says she’s happy with what she’s got.
  • Kenton arrives home to find a distraught Kathy. It’s all her fault, she says. If she had had the courage to go to the police after Owen raped her, the girl in Bournemouth wouldn’t have been his victim. Kenton does his best to calm her down, but Kathy is too upset to listen.
