Kenton offers David help which is not well-received. Rex offers Toby help which is, eventually, well received.

Radio Times: Kenton gets the wrong end of the stick and Rex won’t take no for an answer

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Over a pint and a pie at The Bull, Eddie moans to Jolene about the fact that his womenfolk are too busy working to cook for the men. Although Joe has offered to do a fry-up, Eddie needs the pie first, though the price leads to further moans. Eddie excitedly tells Jolene that he spotted Lilian and Matt in deep conversation yesterday. Jolene quickly nails his suppositions on the head.
  • David mentions taking the bowser back to Hollowtree, causing Pip to ask if ‘anyone’ was there. David wonders if she is having second thoughts about Toby, but Pip is quick to deny this. Further self-flagellation follows from Pip, but David claims that they love having her at home again, and no, Josh doesn’t mind sharing with Ben in the slightest, though admittedly he has being staying at his mate’s house a lot recently.
  • Rex is annoyed when he turns up to collect a taxi fare at The Bull;, to find that the fare has accepted a lift and gone. He decides to call it a day and go home. When he arrives, Toby is lounging on his bed in a state of misery. Rex orders him to get up; they will go together to Hollowtree and sort out the gin, which Kenton and Jolene need urgently. Unfortunately the latest batch is undrinkable, admits Toby, so Rex says they will start a new one straight away.
  • Toby is right about the gin, so Rex throws it away and tries to interest Toby in making more, but ends up doing all the work himself. Exasperated, he asks why he always has to clear up Toby’s mess. Woebegone Toby admits it’s because he’s such a good brother and Toby doesn’t deserve him.
  • David finally makes contact with Kenton by calling at The Bull. Kenton is taken aback to learn of the Brookfield financial situation, but he does have a solution; David and Ruth can have a free meal at The Bull anytime. A furious David is even further infuriated when he hears that Kenton has invested money owing to David in the gin business. Since Toby and Pip are no longer an item, no one cares what happens to Toby’s gin.
