Radio Times: Life in Ambridge

Characters: , , , , , , , ,
  • Ambridge’s volunteers for Speed Watch are chivvied to the training session. Brian would much prefer to be checking spark plugs, Kate is on the phone to a client, Lilian is Justin-less and possibly hung over, which leaves only Jim, Robert and Lynda to sound enthusiastic. As the trainer is off sick, Harrison has been brought in to deliver the training.
  • With so many Ambridge residents otherwise occupied, Matt has the bar at The Bull to himself as he orders coffee. He informs Kenton that his racehorse buying is going so well that he is taking the day off. Kenton appears to be avoiding phone calls from his brother.
  • Harrison does his best, but the trainees are easily distracted. Lilian has her mind on interior décor, Robert on birdwatching and Jim on the use of Greek letters to record car registrations. All are distracted by the sight of Sabrina Thwaite with an unknown man driving past. Commenting to Jim that it was like teaching goldfish to juggle, Harrison is surprised to learn that the session was preferable to taking part in a Snell theatrical production. meanwhile Lynda will draw up rotas for manning the speed gun and recording make, model, colour and registration.
  • As Lilian returns home to deal with décor, she is accosted by Matt, who wants to return some Dresden figurines to her. Lilian claims to be meeting Justin, but Matt knows that is untrue; he knows that Justin is in Edinburgh. Lilian rejects the figurines, but Matt insists; he knows how much she liked them when he bought them for her. She should look on them as an engagement present.’See you, Pusscat,’ says Matt cheerily as Lilian slams the door in his face.
