Kirsty explains to Philip that the reason she went cold on him was that he asked her out on the anniversary of her miscarriage.
Radio Times: Kirsty opens up and Toby is out of his depth
Characters: Eddie, Kirsty, Philip, Pip, Shula, Toby- Toby turns up for his first lambing shift very tired. Jolene has asked him to do more shifts at The Bull because Nic “can’t commit to any at the moment”. Pip warns him not to let her down. It took a lot to get her parents to let him help. Eddie comes out to chivvy him along. Breaks aren’t part of the job.
- At the hunt Philip asks Shula for advice. Did he come on too strong with Kirsty? He thought they were getting on well but now she is blanking him. Shula thinks Kirsty was just being friendly. He asks how she is getting on with Alistair and she says fine. But then Philip starts gushing about how well she is handling the hunt and working at The Stables. She never looks anything other than graceful. Shula responds that Kirsty doesn’t know what she’s missing.
- Eddie is trying to train Toby in lambing but he is clearly a bit queasy about it even though he is trying hard. Eddie teases by asking him to castrate some male lambs. He is better at that. He bets Ruth and David wish someone had done it to him. Eddie says everyone has difficult in-laws. Jethro hated the idea of him marrying Clarrie but he couldn’t say he never did his best for his family. It doesn’t matter if they like him, they just need to know he will do anything for the baby. Toby says he is definitely in for the long haul. Why does he think he’s doing the lambing?
- Philip bumps into Kirsty but she says she is rushing to work. Still, he apologises for trying to rush her. Kirsty says she enjoyed the lunch but the next date he suggested was the anniversary of the miscarriage. Philip says his ex wife had two miscarriages before they had their son. He is sorry for putting his foot in it but he’ll always be there if he can do anything for her, even if just a listening ear.
- After their shift, Eddie tells Pip that Toby did brilliantly. Pip is rather surprised but is pleased. Eddie admits to Toby he is obviously not a natural but he can see he is determined. He just doesn’t want Toby to make a fool of him.
