Radio Times: Matt receives a warning. Shula is offered an alternative

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Clarrie has drafted a heartfelt letter to Oliver and reads it to Ed for comments. He thinks it an affecting apology.
  • Alice and Pip are enjoying the weather while driving grain harvest tractors for Adam. Pip asks about the cricket and Alice is happy to report the success of the team. Alice unknowingly reports on the physical relations of Anisha and Rex. Pip seems anxious to leave quickly during this conversation.
  • Lilian meets with Matt to ask how he is. Matt is angry but Lilian tells him it is his own fault because of his interfering in Justin’s land deal with Tom and because of the gift of the puppy. Matt is incredulous but Lilian also brings up his comments on the planning application. Lilian is anxious to impress upon Matt that he is out of his league with Justin. Lilian reveals that Justin is going to make sure that Matt loses his job.
  • Clarrie brings the letter and must leave it with Shula since Oliver is out. Clarrie asks about the memorial and suggests Grange Farm instead of Grey Gables as the venue. It can be in the garden and they can borrow chairs from the village hall. Shula will ask Oliver when he returns.
  • Lilian tells Matt that he is out of his league with Justin. Why does he persist in making trouble for himself? Matt declares he is doing all this for Lilian. He can’t stand seeing her with Justin; it reminds him of what he had with her. Lilian scoffs and suggests that Matt’s only hope is to apologise to Justin.
  • Ed tells Clarrie that he met up with Oliver and Oliver wanted to know about the herbal leys. Ed tried to apologise but Oliver said he was the one in the wrong for losing his temper. He looked shattered, reports Ed, but they went on to talk about work. Clarrie observes it is probably Oliver’s way of coping. Shula pops in with the good news that Oliver would love to hold the memorial at Grange Farm. And Ian has offered to cater the food. Ed is incredulous because they would have to move all the furniture back as it was and they have only two days. Yes, replies a determined Clarrie, and the grass needs cutting and the flower beds need tidying. We owe it to Oliver and Caroline, she declares.
