Matt gives the SFS the facts. Tom faces some unpleasant facts.
Radio Times: Matt comes clean to the authorities.
Characters: Lilian, Matt, Pat, Tom- Lilian accompanies Matt to his interview with the SFS. He’s tense, but appreciates her being there.
- There’s still no sign of Harry, but he’s trashed another garden. This time he’s left trotter prints everywhere. Pat shows Tom the Echo with the headline Boar on Rampage. It’s the very last thing Tom wants right now. Pat offers Tom a stack of T notes. Maybe they can be used to pay Bert to put the ruined gardens to rights. He’s very grateful for this, but less so when Pat tells him not to let Brenda go too easily. Tom is still angry with her, and still can’t believe she’d do this to him. Pat tries to cheer Tom by telling him they’re going ahead with the lagoon application. It will mean adding £20K to the mortgage.
- Matt’s interview begins. He makes it clear that the small investors, the staff, including Brenda and Lilian are in no way implicated. Matt tells the interviewing officer the truth, but manages to make Chalkie’s role in cutting legal corners very clear. They tried to raise money from the bank knowing, but not revealing, that they had a £2M bad debt on an unsecured loan.
- Pat meets Lilian outside the Police Station. The atmosphere is awkward, and Lilian rejects Pat’s offer of a coffee while she waits. She staunchly defends Matt, saying it takes courage to do what he is doing. Pat rather weakly agrees.
- At last Matt emerges, saying he has co-operated fully. Lilian says she’s proud of him; Chalkman might run away, but Matt faces the truth. Yes, says Matt, and I’ve landed him in it. He won’t like that.
