  • Although Lilian is really pleased that Matt’s enhanced status means she can visit more often, Matt is worried that they won’t have enough to talk about. His news from the greenhouse is soon exhausted – but Lilian certainly has some news!
  • Helen is trying hard to take Annette’s mind of the abortion tomorrow; although grateful, Annette feels she is better on her own.
  • Matt is initially suspicious of the motives of his half-brother but makes it very clear that he wants nothing to do with him, or his mother. Lilian is all the family he wants.
  • Pip is agonising over which magazine to choose and Annette, who can be forgiven for thinking this is rather trivial, is a bit short with her. She seeks Annette’s advice about dressing to please boys and admits there are a couple in view. Be careful is Annette’s advice – said with feeling!
  • Lilian keeps her promise and rings Paul, Matt’s half-brother, to deliver his rebuff in as gentle a way as possible. She did try. He is disappointed but accepts the decision; they end the conversation amicably.
  • Helen and Annette are due to go to Bridge Farm this evening for Brenda’s birthday. Annette backs out, despite Helen’s best efforts; she will be fine on her own. Helen has been brilliant; it’s been the longest weekend ever; she just wants tomorrow to be here.
