Matt spends another day away from home. Brenda accepts Tom’s proposal.
Radio Times: Jolene suspects an ulterior motive for Matt.
Characters: Brenda, Clarrie, Jolene, Lilian, Matt, Tom- Lilian finds a torn up speeding ticket in the bin. Matt’s not going to pay; he’ll be in prison by the time they catch up with him. He’s off out, people to see. Lilian’s reminder of their night out follows behind him.
- Eddie asks Clarrie if, in talking with Oliver, she found out if he’s going away for the weekend. Immediately suspicious, she doesn’t want to know the detail but if Eddie makes trouble for Edward he knows what to expect from her.
- Lilian discusses her problems with Jolene at the Bull. Matt didn’t make it back in time and she can’t contact him. She doesn’t think it’s another woman, “we’ve been down that road before”. It’s different this time but he’s not talking about it. Then Matt rings. He’s almost home but had forgotten about the evening out. He’s going straight to bed, tired out, so she needn’t hurry back.
- Brenda calls Tom and distracts him with tales of how she’s going to show her appreciation when a cow treads on his foot. Later at the Bull she sees the damage isn’t too bad and Tom responds well to her physio. She apologises again for last night and says she hopes Tom’s not wishing he was on his own again. It seems not. Tom proposes marriage and she accepts.
