Characters: , , , , ,
  • It’s Sunday in Ambridge, and Helen is adapting to her new-found freedom. Pat fusses and frets; Kirsty offers friendship and company. Understandably, Helen is unwilling to leave the house, but is longing to see Henry again.
  • Someone else is spending Sunday with a fussing mother; Rob is reading comments about him online, and rants at Ursula when she tries to offer consolation. At last he finds one which denigrates Helen, which cheers him somewhat. Ursula tries, without conviction, to persuade Rob that he will win custody of both boys, but even self-deluding Rob realises this is by no means certain.
  • Pat’s anxiety grows until Henry is delivered by Rob, who, having told Henry how much he loves him, displays consummate thespian skills in front of Pat, meekly asking to be allowed to see Gideon (alias Jack). Some of Helen’s new-found strength seems to have rubbed off on Pat, who coldly refuses the request and shuts the door in Rob’s face.
  • Henry is a little uncertain in the company of his rather tearful mother, but comments on her new hairstyle and goes off to find the Snakes and Ladders game. He is fascinated by Jack, and announces that he can’t wait to tell Daddy about him. Henry is determined to beat Helen; Daddy, of course, always wins. The word ‘Daddy’ upsets Helen, and when Henry asks why Daddy calls the baby Gideon, he is told that it is a nickname that Daddy uses.
  • Kirsty offers to help Tom with the vegetables, and he is touched, but finds it hard to express his feelings. When lunch is ready, Kirsty says she will go home, but Tom wants her to stay and eat with them.
  • An angry Rob tells Ursula about his treatment at Bridge Farm, and indulges in some fine self-pity at the iniquity of Pat’s attitude. Ursula agrees totally; the Archers are dreadful people. But soon he will have his boys.
