Peggy tries to persuade Oliver to stay in Ambridge and Susan’s kefir explodes.
Radio Times: Pip and Toby need to work together
Characters: Neil, Oliver, Peggy, Pip, Susan, Toby- Rex’s goslings have escaped and are in the pond. Pip and Toby have to try to get them out but Toby isn’t all that keen on cold water and seems more interested in checking his phone. Then Toby tries to convince Susan to help. She isn’t convinced but is bullied into it. Pip is impressed that Toby has charmed her into it, Susan less so when they peck her ankles. After the gosling episode Toby suggests meeting up but it turns out he’s only finding his socks in her cab.
- Neil can tell Susan is still in a foul mood though he doesn’t know why. Neil isn’t much happier with kefir all over the kitchen. Susan thinks he should be being more supportive.
- Oliver has afternoon tea with Peggy after Chris let her down. It seems as if Peggy might have been looking out for him. Peggy talks about how the choices he and Caroline made have made Grey Gables a success. She claims she does understand his intention to sell, it’s only natural. It can be painful to be in the place where you were happy. She sees that it would free him from a lot of worries. He is torn about whether to go. He would get to know his grand-children but he is undecided. Peggy says that Jack was often down about things. But his faith and throwing himself into village life kept him going. Grey Gables was so important to Ambridge. It put him right at the heart of the community. He wonders if she is telling him to stay. Of course family is important but she says there are plenty of people who think Ambridge is where he belongs.
- When Susan gets back to Ambridge View she finds all her kefir has exploded. She’ll have nothing left for the challenge. Neil doesn’t care, the smell of sour milk is hurting his eyes and she can clean it up herself. When he gets back he tells her that kefir had better be in the dim and distant past.
