Pip tells Ruth about Izzy. The family try to plan for Jack’s care.
Radio Times: Tony and Lilian keep secrets.
Characters: Adam, David, Jennifer, Lilian, Ruth, Tony- David and Adam disbud some calves. Adam updates David on Peggy’s progress, commenting that Jack is very confused and Lilian exhausted from looking after him. When Ruth arrives, David passes on news about the digester. Loxley Norton have secured the necessary approval for food handling, so there’s little chance of AHP getting it now. Ruth is very angry.
- Jennifer’s in a foul mood when Tony appears for a family conference about Jack, but also to look for Brian. Angrily, Jennifer tells him he needs to talk to Matt, not Brian, about the bid to buy Bridge Farm.
- David’s mightily impressed by Emma’s cleaning in the kitchen. She and Ed have settled very happily into Rickyard Cottage. Ruth’s still cross about the digester, but David points out that if milk prices hold up and their rotational grazing scheme pays off, they should do well financially despite losing the digester.
- Adam joins Lilian, Jennifer and Tony to discuss Jack. Lilian says she can manage a few more days, but no more. Although no-one likes to say the word, a care home is urgently needed. Jennifer snarls at every suggestion; she’s already rung several homes, but none of them can take Jack. They agree to contact Jack’s psychiatric nurse for advice, but meanwhile they will say nothing to Peggy.
- Pip has been very quiet. Eventually Ruth gets the truth out of her; Izzy can’t forgive Pip for suggesting an abortion. When David hears the news, he’s horrified. Is Pip having sex? She might become pregnant! Ruth calms him down; they have always had an open relationship with Pip, and she would talk to her mother if she needed to.
