  • Rex and Toby have borrowed a van and are loading Jenny’s old kitchen units into it for delivery to the village hall. Adam arrives ready to do battle, thinking they are thieves. Brian catches up with him. They are off to a farm fertility day in Oxfordshire. Toby rather obviously feigns interest in soil improvement measures.
  • In the car, Brian tells Adam that Kate has obtained planning permission for her yurts but he still has doubts about the project. Adam lets slip that Phoebe can’t come to his wedding, she’s busy working hard on her Oxford interview. As they drive, Adam spots that Keepers Cottage has been let.
  • Rex tries to persuade Toby that it would be useful to keep in with Adam, now that they are working together. Rex is dropping in to Brookfield to discuss sheep related matters with Pip but Toby sees it as an excuse to visit her. Rob appears and gleefully puts both of the lads right about the farm shop. There is no chance of it taking their geese, organic produce only.
  • While waiting for Helen’s scan, Rob insists that she is in such a muddle, he’s glad the midwife approved of her not driving. Helen shows a little spirit and disagrees. She still can’t see why they’re scanning anyway. Rob puts her straight. She’s worth it and additionally they will discover the child’s sex. “But there’s no need to know, is there?” she retorts.
  • Rex reports back to Toby about the sheep at Brookfield. His enthusiasm is obvious. They’re a good earner for the farm, especially as they are going through a rocky patch currently. Pip was speaking of the contract milker in glowing terms, a real find apparently. Toby, still honing his sarcasm skills, is really pleased for her.
  • The results of the scan are in. “It’s the most perfect news” insists Rob. Helen, with a little hesitation, admits to being pleased that all is going well. But Rob is beside himself. “It’s a boy … my son … isn’t it wonderful?” he demands. Hesitating for a further, palpable moment, Helen agrees. “Yes, of course it is.”
