Ruth and David have a romantic interlude. Ed has major worries. Pip has a problem of the ovine variety.

Radio Times: Jamie expects the worst and Emma comes to the rescue.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Ed finds it difficult to sleep, worrying about a sick cow and the inevitable vet’s bill. Emma sees someone in the yard, and realising it’s Pip, goes to see if she needs help. Pip has heard a lamb crying, and they find it entangled in wire in the orchard. They free it, make the fence safe and go back to bed. Emma offers to help later on.
  • David and Ruth sleep in. When David wakes he wants to check for any messages from Pip, but Ruth, in her most alluring tones, makes him come back to bed.
  • Mike has extra work for Jamie, which pleases him. He tells Kathy that Natalie is having a results party on Thursday. With supreme insensitivity, Kathy blathers on about how well Natalie will have done. Jamie is glad of an excuse to get out and goes to work.
  • When the romantic duo return from holiday, which was, of course, the best holiday EVER, there is no-one at Brookfield to welcome them apart from Ed. They find Pip and Emma just finishing fence repairs.
  • Ed confides his worries to Emma. The cow has mastitis and will lose a quarter if not her calf, and Alistair’s bill will be large. They just have to stop spending. Emma points out that she is always careful and buys only what they need.
  • Kathy goes to watch Jamie at nets. She has changed her shift so will be available to go with Jamie to fetch his results. Jamie makes his feelings very plain. He does not want his mother anywhere around on Thursday.
