Susan is worried about George. Lilian is worried about her public persona. Pat gets an interesting offer of help.
Radio Times: Lilian’s loyalties are called into question.
Characters: Jennifer, Lilian, Pat, Susan, William- Will’s looking for Brian, who needs to speak to him urgently. He finds Jennifer, who tells him it’s to rearrange his work tomorrow, because he’s needed to sit in on the interviews for a new under-keeper. Will’s delighted.
- Lilian is becoming paranoid. When Will rushes back to work, she’s sure he’s avoiding her, as most of Ambridge seem to be doing since they heard about his plans for Bridge Farm. Even Alice and Peggy seem to be against her. Jennifer suggests a trip to Underwoods to cheer her up.
- Susan and Pat discuss Matt’s machinations. Susan is very sympathetic, so Pat suggests that she lodge an objection with the council. She then asks Susan to be on the committee for the Transitional Community scheme – with responsibility for waste management! Susan isn’t too sure about that one.
- Jennifer tells Lilian about the holiday she’s booked on the Costa Smeralda. Lilian is full of envy, but then realises how upset Jennifer is over Brian’s trip to Ireland. Jennifer is having Jack and Peggy to lunch, so Lilian agrees to come too, for moral support.
- Will calls at the shop, and Susan tries to broach the subject of George, but they are interrupted by Pat. When Will has gone, Susan confides to Pat that she’s worried about the situation; whatever George wants, he gets from Will, and when Emma can’t follow suit, George throws a tantrum. But Susan has an idea about her role in the Transitional Community scheme – she’ll organise a Skills and Produce swap. Pat’s very encouraged by such support.
- Pat calls to enlist Jennifer’s support for Susan’s idea, and Lilian rushes to hide from her. When Pat has left, Lilian emerges, only to find that Pat has come back. There is an acid exchange, and Pat tells Lilian to stop condoning what Matt is doing.
