The Bull’s pancake promotion is a flop. Oliver and Caroline’s attempts at money-raising are a flop.

Radio Times: Pancake day falls flat for Jolene.

Characters: , , , , , , ,
  • The day begins badly for Oliver and Caroline, when Duncan rings to say he’s not investing in Grey Gables. A row develops, with Oliver accusing Caroline of having a commitment issue. They are interrupted by the surly Carly.
  • At the Bull, Jolene is fraught, trying to put on a pancake promotion. When Sid causes her to burn herself, he gets an earful about clumsiness. They are both tense because Caroline’s friend Marcie is coming to look round the Bull.
  • Kenton, Kathy and Jamie try the pancakes, and are not impressed. Jamie says Frank, the chef at Jaxx, was working at the Bull on Sunday, when he was spending the day with Sid. That, says Kenton, explains why Frank has been so dozy at work recently.
  • Marcie takes one look at the pancakes and says she’s not interested in a pub with third rate catering. Oddly, Jolene isn’t put out. She couldn’t work with a stuck-up cow like that, she tells Sid.
  • Caroline begins to make some progress with Carly, by telling her about her own unhappy childhhod, but they are interrupted by Oliver, and Carly bolts for her room. Caroline’s not bothered – it’s a start, and as long as Carly leaves them feeling better than when she arrived, that’s all that matters. Oliver and Caroline apologise to one another for their row, and peace returns to Grange Farm. Oliver will find a way for Caroline to own Grey Gables.
