  • There is a surprisingly good turn-out for the Dawn Chorus walk, for which Mike is the leader and Bert is the bird expert. Tom is last to arrive so does not hear Brian pouring scorn on the economics of him turning out for such a small number. Of course, Tom is doing this for love, not money, though he was very tempted to turn over. Tom still believes that their recent bad experience with Gourmet Grills was just mindless vandalism and he is hoping for another uneventful day at Lower Loxley.
  • Bert is good with birds but his comments on muntjacs, what pests they are damaging trees, bring Phoebe close to tears. Mike enjoyed himself, perhaps taking his mind off the earlier discovery that Roy and Hayley are still planning to find a place of their own; he thought that plan had changed after Betty’s death.
  • Breakfast is well received, especially by Bert who gets a free one. Brian and Jennifer loook forward to a 30th wedding anniversary dinner at Grey Gables tonight.
  • After the early start and some wine with dinner, Brian is finding it hard to keep awake but he hopes the next 30 years are just as much fun as the first 30; Jennifer, one suspects, could manage with a bit less fun!
