  • Call me Johnno! Helen thought she had a date with Jonathon but apparently everyone needs a nickname for bowling. What is hers? By the time they get to the bowling alley Johnno has decided on ‘Helga’, who from a poor start can only get better. The evening goes well enough.
  • Mike is worrying about what he should wear; he is going with Vicky and Bethany to a talk at the WI. Why, I hear you cry? Tonight’s speakers are a mother and son, Janice and Calum, telling of their experience of living with Down’s syndrome, including life in mainstream schools. Jenny isn’t there – she has another engagement – and Lilian is ‘under the weather’. Calum chips in frequently with mischievous humourous remarks.
  • The talk was a great success. Peggy certainly enjoyed it and Bethany was as good as gold. Mike enjoys a football conversation with Calum and is very pleased that Jill invited him.
