Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Chris and Susan discuss Neil’s health and Susan wants Chris to come over and talk to Neil to find out how he is really doing. Alice, however, insists on going to Home Farm to support Brian, and Susan overhears Alice’s rude comments about Neil. Chris and Alice argue briefly about the way she spoke about Neil. Alice claims she is just too stressed over the problems facing her father to worry about anyone else. Chris sighs and mentions that he must go to Shula’s to see Aziz. Alice moans that the after work do is black tie and Chris warns Alice to eat something first.
  • Pip shows up for Aqua Fit and Lynda directs her to the pool. Lynda reveals that she is ridding herself of negativity when Toby shows up. The women are shocked because there has never been a man in the class before. Toby seems never to have thought of that. When they reach the pool, Pip laughs when she glimpses Toby’s ‘budgie smugglers’. The ladies in the pool whistle and call their appreciation.
  • Lynda calls out Susan on the goat’s milk kefir idea. Susan has claimed the concept as hers when she knows very well Lynda suggested it. Susan asks archly if Lynda is complaining because that would destroy her positivity. Lynda sniffs as she leaves.
  • Pip is still laughing about Toby’s reception and declares she is now in a good mood. She tells Toby that Ruth found Pip in the calving shed, turning a breeched calf. Pip is very worried about her missing shifts with the lambing and calving. Toby offers to take over the night shifts but Pip tells him it is skilled work. She finally agrees to ask her parents if Toby can take over for her.
  • Alice asks Chris’s opinion on the coat she wishes to wear to the party after work. She apologises for her comments to Susan this morning. Alice is particularly worried about this party and the competition with the colleague who has organised it.
  • Pip and Ruth discuss options for the new milking parlour as they drive to observe a system on another farm. Ruth brings up Pip’s breech of rules; Ruth was devastated when she miscarried. Any extra risk during a pregnancy is not worth taking. Pip moans again about not being able to help. She brings up Toby’s offer. Ruth laughs and says Toby Fairbrother is not coming anywhere near her cows. Ruth finally agrees to talk to David but Pip notes that David will laugh as well, won’t he?
