Radio Times: Shula learns the error of her ways.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Adam’s got some bad news to impart. It will cost £60K to sell electricity from the biodigester to the grid. He rings Matt, who orders him to come to a meeting with Annabelle.
  • Shula helps Jill put up canes for her runner beans. Phil is too immersed in his star photographs to do it. Jill asks Shula how things are between her and Usha, and Shula tells her it’s all blown over, though she’s not looking forward to the churchwardens’ meeting with Alan this evening.
  • Annabelle quizzes Matt about Lilian’s reaction to his decision to take the packhouse away from Pat and Tony. He’s surprised at Lilian’s ability to keep family matters to herself.
  • Shula arrives early for her meeting, and is tense, rabbitting on about George Grundy. Alan seizes the opportunity for some plain speaking. Shula has betrayed a confidence, and the consequences for Usha of Shula’s interview with the journalist are massive. She’s reliving the racist attacks and has lost all her confidence. A chastened, and shaken, Shula is glad when Neil arrives and the meeting begins.
  • Matt and Annabelle give Adam a hard time over the electricity supply costs. For Matt, it just proves that they should have gone for a bigger scheme. Annabelle knows a consultant, and they agree to get him to advise them, but not before Annabelle manages to belittle Adam by pointing out to Matt that he’s only a farmer, and couldn’t be expected to know that all costs are negotiable.
