  • With the first ploughing competition of the season only two weeks away, Bert needs to get in some ploughing practice. He is going to take Rufus to plough a field at Bridge Farm but Eddie teases him about Tony getting the work done for nothing.
  • Lynda assures Roy that she is always polite to guests – even those who turn up very late, drunk and in the company of her husband!
  • Bert is composing poetry as he ploughs when calamity strikes – smoke everywhere.
  • As they check the sheep, Eddie asks David about tomorrow and is surprised to learn that David is going nowhere; he admits to Ruth having a doctor’s appointment. Bert’s phone call sends them on a rescue mission. They get the tractor home and David will try to find someone to repair it before the first competition – no promises.
  • Robert just happens to be passing Grey Gables, so calls in on Lynda – and enquires after the snake’s owner. Their own guests, including a Professor of zoology, have not found the Worm of Ambridge. Borchester Life have sent another cheque; Dylan Nells has had a pay rise. They still cannot cash the cheques but bide their time; Lynda has a plan.
  • Back home, Lynda and Robert change the guest bed only to find a sleeping snake under the duvet. They shut it in the bedroom and ring Scarlet. How strange that the professor has spent three days searching for it and it turns up in his bed.
